NEW DELHI: The Delhi police is still waiting for the final post-mortem reports to ascertain the cause of death of Kerala boy Rajat Menon, 15, who was beaten to death in Mayur Vihar Phase III. Police is maintaining that Rajat died of cardiac arrest or shock due to a fistfight according to a preliminary investigation into the mysterious death.
Meanwhile, the locals in the area alleged that the tea-kiosk is one of the many involved in illegal drug business. They said that they had complained to the police when a few delinquents had reportedly misbehaved with a a woman. Reacting to this allegation, the Delhi Police maintained that they have never received any complaint.
A local on condition of anonymity alleged that the park close to a temple where Rajat was dragged and beaten up was a hub for drugs addicts and anti-social elements. Moreover, with the dysfunctional lights in the park, the problem was aggravated for women who have to cross the park in the evening.
Senior police officers said that when Rajat collapsed and become unconscious, he was taken by the juveniles on a motorcycle to a private clinic where he was refused treatment and was then taken to Metro hospital where the doctors again refused to treat him. It was finally when Rajat was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital that he was declared brought dead.
Mr M B Rajesh, MP, who represents Palakkad, visited the site of the alleged crime on Friday and told media that the narco-police nexus was evident and he would raise it in Lok Sabha. He said this was why effective action was not being taken by Delhi police.
