A 21-year-old woman and her friend were arrested on Saturday by Palarivattom Police for allegedly cheating many youths by doling out false promise of jobs in a fashion designing institute abroad through Facebook.

Kochi: A 21-year-old woman and her friend were arrested on Saturday by Palarivattom Police for allegedly cheating many youths by doling out false promise of jobs in a fashion designing institute abroad through Facebook. Krishnendu, a native of Kunnumkulam in Thrissur, and Jinson (27), a resident of Puthukad, Thrissur, committed fraud to the tune of Rs 45 lakh and as many as 83 job aspirants have so far found to have fallen in their trap, said cops.

“The main accused is currently working in the fashion designing field. She and her friend cheated through Facebook saying that she was set to open a new fashion designing store in Gulf and that there was urgent vacancy for salesmen. The victims mainly include her Facebook friends who doled out Rs 53,000 each to get the job,” a police officer said. Cops arrested the duo on a complaint filed by a Vennala native. The cops arrested the duo after laying a trap for them. They asked the main accused and her friend to appear before them for taking their "statement".

"Later the duo was subjected to detailed interrogation when it was revealed that they used the money to lead a luxurious life and planning to go underground. Further probe revealed that similar complaints were lodged against them in other police stations too,” police said.
