Pregnant woman's body found in sack at Ikkarakunnu junction

The police suspected it to be a case of murder.

Kottayam: The body of a four-month pregnant woman, aged around 40, was found tied up in a sack in a rubber estate at Ikkarakunnu junction near Athirampuzha, 15 km from Kottayam   town, on Monday morning. A rubber tapper first saw the body which was wrapped in a polythene sheet.  Its face was covered with cloth and the legs were tied. The police suspected it to be a case of murder.

Emptied liquor and soda bottles and the portions of a rope were found in another part of the  rubber estate which belongs to  Painel Lalichan of  Ikarakunnu.  The police and the forensic experts reached the spot and took evidence.  It is suspected that the woman  is  Sowmya, a native of Kaipuzha, near Kottayam. She  was wearing a blue nighty.

Mr  Mohammad Kabeer Rawther, DySP, narcotic cell,  who visited the spot,  said  the police were yet to identify the body. “The body will be kept in the mortuary till it is identified  after which the post-mortem will be held,”  he said.   The police inquest did not find any noticeable injury marks on the body  except blood oozing from the nose.
