Birthday bash in station: Cops land in trouble
Karthik believed that Abhishek is a bonafide cop and lent his vehicle. Abhishek had also produced a fake identity card to the police.
Bengaluru: Two cops of the rank of sub-inspectors earlier attached to Vidyaranyapura police station are likely to face disciplinary action for celebrating birthday party of a civilian who turned out to be a robber later.
The video of the celebrations went viral on social networking sites drawing widespread flak.
According to sources, the cops celebrated the birthday of Abhishek, 25, an accused, who was later arrested on charges of robbing `10,000 car from a owner.
It is said that Abhishek, a graduate, used to con people by claiming himself to be a police constable attached to Vidyaranyapura police station.
He had asked one Karthik to lend his car for investigation claiming that a police team was going to Goa and Hubballi in connection with an encounter case.
Karthik believed that Abhishek is a bonafide cop and lent his vehicle. Abhishek had also produced a fake identity card to the police.
Later, when Karthik wanted his car back, the accused failed to respond. It came to light that Abhishek had faked Karthik when the latter went to the police station. Later, a complaint was lodged and the accused was arrested.
DCP North East Bheemashankar Guled clarified that the birthday celebration incident occurred in Aug 2018 when there were no cases registered against the accused. However, he said it is totally against police ethos to celebrate a private person’s birthday in a police station.
“The complaint against the person was lodged in July 2019 and subsequently he was arrested and sent to judicial custody. The SIs in the video have been transferred out of Bengaluru seven months ago. However, we are taking action against them,” DCP Guled explained.
