Bike wheelie: Pillion rider run over by truck in Bengaluru
Both the bike rider and the truck driver did not stop and sped away, eyewitnesses told the police.
Bengaluru: An 18-year-old girl who was riding pillion died on the spot after she fell from the bike and got run over by a mini truck. Her friend, who was riding the bike, had resorted to a wheelie on the busy Old Madras Road on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as K. Shiny Kiran, a second PU student of RJS College in Koramangala and a resident of Ulsoor. Both the bike rider and the truck driver did not stop and sped away, eyewitnesses told the police.
According to the police, the accident happened at around 6.30 pm before the Gopalan Mall. The bike rider resorted to do stunts with the girl in pillion. The police are not sure if she was wearing a helmet. “When the bike rider attempted to do a wheelie, Shiny Kiran slipped and fell on to the road,” a senior police officer said quoting an eyewitness.
“As it was peak hour traffic, a truck that was following the bike ran over the victim. Shiny Kiran sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot,” the officer added. There were several bystanders around who could not help much as the victim had sustained fatal injuries.The body was shifted to Bowring Hospital and her family members were informed about the accident.
The police have clues about the bike rider friend of the victim and have launched a manhunt to arrest him. The police are also analyzing CCTV footage from nearby commercial establishments.
