The police booked cases against the suspects for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Hyderabad: The Hayathnagar police has busted a gang that was cheating people in the name of Bhoodan land and houses. The racketeers used to convince victims that they will be given houses by the KCR Welfare Residential Society at Papaiguda Cross Roads at cheap prices.
The gang collected around Rs 1 lakh from each victim as advance and told them to pay the full amount during the allotment process.
Inspector J. Narender Goud said on Saturday that the main accused, Varikuppala Baburao, 51, Padathaboina Saidulu, 36, and Methari Muthyalu, 56, organised the racket.
One of the victims, Kukkamoodi Hemalatha, from LB Nagar, alleged that the suspects took Rs 1.25 lakh from her for the house.
“The gang gave her photostat copies of some documents and said they would supply originals in a few weeks. However, later the racket was exposed,” said the inspector.
