Tamil Nadu: Bag stolen after breaking open doctor couple's car

Chennai: Police have launched hunt for a gang who fled with the bag of a doctor couple by breaking open the glass window of their parked car near Chrompet on Friday. Police sources said that the doctor couple was having pani puri at a roadside stall on GST road when their car was broken into. The couple- Balaji (32), works at a private medical institute in Porur and his wife, Lokeshwari (30) is a postgraduate student at a college in Chrompet.
On Friday evening, Balaji had picked up his wife after work and they were returning to their home near Madipakkam when the incident happened. While they were having pani puri, Lokeshwari noticed a person suspiciously lurking around their car and alerted her husband. By the time they rushed, the man had cut the glass window and escaped with the bag inside.
The couple raised alarms after which public gave a chase and managed to catch the suspect and handed him over to Chromepet police. Investigations revealed that he handed over the bag to his accomplices who mingled with the crowd chasing him. “The bag had cash worth Rs 6,700 and debit cards,” a police officer said. Police suspect him to be involved in similar incidents, reported often in the stretch.
