Hyderabad: Hayathnagar police on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman in a car with two of his friends on Diwali.
The trio had been stopped by locals at assaulted but managed to run away.
The suspects confessed that they were drunk and followed the girl as they knew her. The girl denied that she know them.
The suspects, Madhagoni Prasad, 24, car driver from Bharathnagar, LB Nagar; Siddagoni Shiva Kumar, 25, from Alkapuri Colony; and Parigi Mallesh, 25, a newspaper agent from Rajiv Gandhi nagar, Saroornagar, landed in police custody while they were on the run.
“Prasad claimed that he had seen the woman multiple times when he went to visit his friend at the supermarket, where the girl also worked,” said Mr J. Narender Goud, Hayathnagar police inspector.
As per the confession of the suspects, they got drunk to celebrate Diwali and then took a car to the area where the girl lived. They waited for her and dragged her into the car before she reached home.
Police said Prasad wanted to have a sexual relationship with the victim. When he got drunk, he chalked out a plan with his friends to kidnap and rape her at a deserted place in Peddamberpet.
Police has now sent the suspects to judicial remand after producing them before a local city court.
