Chennai: A 28-year-old-woman, her paramour, and her brother-in-law, were arrested after the three attempted to pass off her husband's murder as a train accident near Thiruninravur on Thursday. Their plot fell through as the Tiruvallur Railway Police recovered the body before any train passed that track.

The arrested were identified as Gayathri (28), Nirmalraj of Red Hills and Balaji, who is deceased Kannan’s  younger brother.  Kannan (35) got married to Gayathri in 2010, and separated from her after the couple had two children and she became friendly with Nirmalraj who is an autorickshaw driver. Kannan would visit the children living with his ex-wife in Avadi and Gayathri recently married off her younger sister to Kannan's brother Balaji. This further strained her relationship with Kannan who attacked his brother last Monday. On Wednesday night, Kannan visited Gayathri and picked up a fresh quarrel, which culminated with her being physically beaten up. Gayathri then alerted Nirmalraj and Balaji who rushed to her house and thrashed Kannan who collapsed and died.

The trio dumped Kannan's body in the railway tracks near Periyar Nagar, Thiruninravur. However, the Tiruvallur Railway Police spotted the body before any train came that way. The identity of the body was establis-hed with the help of Thiruninravur Police and the murder was solved. The Railway Police arrested the trio and moved the body to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for autopsy. A court in Tiruvallur remanded the trio to judicial custody. The autorickshaw used to ferry the body to the tracks was also seized.
