Two men held with Rs 1.05 crore worth gold
The arrested were identified as Arul Peter Joshua (35) of Chennai and Rajasekhar (47) from Sivaganga.
Chennai: Two air passengers who arrived from Dubai early Sunday morning were arrested by Customs officials after the two were found carrying 35 gold biscuits weighing 3.5 kg and worth Rs 1.05 crore hidden in two emergency lights they were carrying. The arrested were identified as Arul Peter Joshua (35) of Chennai and Rajasekhar (47) from Sivaganga.
“The two arrived in a flight from Dubai at around 4.30 am and were trying to walk through the green channel saying they had nothing to declare when Customs officials decided to check them and their luggage.
The initial body search ended without any result and later their bags were checked. Customs officials had to go through all the items they were carrying. Finally when they opened the emergency lights in their bags, the sleuths noticed 35 neatly packed gold biscuits in them,” Chennai airport sources said. The two were arrested for trying to smuggle gold into the country.
