Hyderabad: Three nabbed for stealing gold on polishing pretext

The gang would offer to polish gold and silver ornaments and target aged persons.

Special Operations Team of Rachakonda police Malkajgiri zone busted a city-bound ganja racket and nabbed two persons.

Hyderabad: It may seem like a harmless service being offered but it's best to decline. Three men from Bihar who offered to polish gold ornaments of people living in a colony were caught by Commissioner's Task Force, North Zone Team, in a joint operation with Market Police, on Monday for stealing the gold. Police have detected six cases in which they were involved and seized gold ornaments weighing 162 gm, five Ujala shine packets and two cell phones from them.

The arrested were identified as Mohammed Sattar Ali, Chhote Miyan, and Mohd Amir, all natives of Bihar. The gang would offer to polish gold and silver ornaments and target aged persons. As a sample they polished copper and silver objects they carried with the powder to show how they shown and charge a modest amount for the service.

The ornaments would be placed in a bowl of water and the owner advised to wait for five or ten minutes as the water boiled. They would then manage to distract the owner and make off with the ornaments, said DCP North Zone, B Sumathi.
