Hyderabad: 43-year-old held for harassment

Police said, the 24-year-old woman, a resident of Neredmet, had been dodging harassment from her neighbour of almost twice her age.

Hyderabad: A 43-year-old man who had been harassing a female software engineer with text messages professing his love for her was apprehended by the Rachakonda She Teams sleuths following a complaint from her. The She Teams also arrested another 37 other violators accused of harassing women and prevented five child marriages in the past month.

Police said, the 24-year-old woman, a resident of Neredmet, had been dodging harassment from her neighbour of almost twice her age. T. Sambashiva Rao, 43, an employee at a private firm, had been stalking her frequently on her way to work and upon her arrival at home.

“Despite several warnings, Rao continued to harass the woman. Four days ago, Rao sent her a text message saying that he likes her, and threatened to kill her parents if she didn’t reciprocate,” the police said.

In another case, in Bhongir, a 20-year-old tractor driver B. Ramakiran was arrested for misbehaving with a 17-year-old girl at her residence. The accused had been pestering the girl for over six months to accept his marriage proposal. “Unable to bear the harassment, the girl complained to the She Teams and Ramakiran was arrested,” said the police.

The police further said that in response to a complaint filed at the Keesara police station, one S. Rajashekar, 28,  was arrested for cheating a woman in the name of marriage.

“The She Teams rescued 5 other girls — 2 in Bhongir, 1 in Malkajgiri, 1 in Ibrahimpatnam and 1 in Choutuppal — from being forced into child marriage. All women and girls in distress are advised to reach out to the police by dialling 100 or messaging on WhatsApp on 9490617111,” said Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.
