Youth murdered over usury money in Thanjai

Thanjavur: In a case of usury, a 22-year-old youth Arun was allegedly murdered by henchmen of the usurer Senthil, a PMK member at Panadurai in Kumbakonam near here on Wednesday night.

Tragically, Arun was murdered in front of his father Sivasubramanian (53) when the two were in their provision shop near their house.  

Following a complaint from Sivasubramanian, the police are on the search for Senthil and other accused who are absconding.

The incident sent shock waves as the gruesome murder of Arun was recorded in CCTV camera. Arun who has completed engineering degree is helping his father in the shop.

According to the police, Sivasubramanian borrowed `three lakh from Senthil to meet his family expenses and run his shop four years back. It was a usurious loan as interest was exorbitant. However Sivasubramanian paid the interest properly, but subsequently there were between members of the usurer's gang and Arun.

On April 26, Senthil and others came to the house of Sivasubramanian and asked for the loan amount and verbally abused him.

Following this Sivasubramanian consumed pesticide. He was admitted to Kumbakonam government hospital and returned home only on Wednesday. In the evening a few unknown persons came to the shop where Arun and Sivasubramanian were present and started attacking Arun with a sickle. An injured Arun was taken to hospital but died on way.
