Chennai: Girl dies after ceiling of house collapses on her

Chennai: An 11-year-old girl died after the concrete ceiling of her house collapsed on Saturday early morning on the outskirts of the city. D. Praveena (11) was a class 6 girl and was sleeping with her mother Abitha and brother Praveen (8) when the incident happened.
Dhakshinamurthy of Nehru Nagar in Reddypalayan near Chengalpattu is a loadman and went to work on Friday night. His elder son Saravanan (15) is staying in Abitha’s mother’s house in Villupuram.
“At around 5.30 am, the neighbours had heard huge noise from Dhakshinamurthy’s house and rushed to help. They found the ceiling fallen on the mother and her two children. They informed Palur police and fire station,” a source said.
Praveena was crushed under the ceiling and died on the spot, while Praveen and Abitha suffered injuries. Praveen was admitted to Chengalpet government hospital and is undergoing treatment. Abitha was treated in outpatient ward.
According to police, the house is 40-years-old and left unattended for a long time. Palur police have registered a case and are investigating.
