Chennai: Burqa clad man tries to rob ATM, arrested

Chennai: The city police have arrested a man who dressed in a black burqa and attempted to rob an ATM kiosk in Velachery in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to the police, the incident took place on Velachery Bypass Road at 2 am on Tuesday. Police said when the Velachery patrol vehicle were on rounds near the Velachery Bypass road, the police spotted a burqa wearing woman sitting on a two-wheeler wearing a helmet in a suspicious manner.
When the beat police approached him, the suspect fled on the two-wheeler.
However, after a hot chase, the police caught the suspect and took him to the police station for an enquiry.
He was identified as Raj Kumar (24), a welder from Velachery. Police said Raj Kumar, planned to unscrew the ATM machine and steal cash, However, due to the patrol police’s timely intervention, his attempt was thwarted. Police also recovered a welding machine and a screwdriver from him.
