Hyderabad: Three killed in building arch crash
This is the second collapse of and under- construction building in the last fortnight.
Hyderabad: Three workers were killed and four others injured when part of a building under construction collapsed at the KPHB Colony on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place at 4.30 pm at Meadow-lands Apartment in Vasanthnagar where 10 workers were engaged in the construction of a concrete arch attached to the building. This is the second collapse of and under- construction building in the last fortnight, the earlier one being the portico of the Film Nagar Cultural Centre.
Police said the arch caved in while the workers were finishing the job. The concrete pillars gave away and the structure came crashing down. “Three workers got trapped under the debris and died before they were pulled out. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital,” said a police officer from KBHB.
The victims were identified as Dharma Rao, 30, and Naghabhushanam, 50, from Srikakulam and Janardhan, 40, from Odisha. They had been working since last month, officials said. Most of the construction of the apartment complex had been done and work on the arch had been going on.
Police said that the materials used were of inferior quality, which led to the mishap. KBHB police has booked a case under IPC Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence). The building owners are likely to be named in the FIR. The contractor is absconding.
