Chennai: Teen kidnapped in luxury car, let off
The unfolding of events was caught in a CCTV camera in the neighbourhood, police sources said.
Chennai: A kidnapping unfolded in broad daylight on the Chennai Tiruvallur High Road (CTH) near Tirumullaivoyal on Tuesday wherein a teenager was kidnapped by an unidentified gang in a luxury car. However, the gang let off the kidnapped 19-year-old within a hour of abducting him, police sources said.
The victim, V. Akash Ebenezer, a resident of Shenoy Nagar. was riding towards Avadi with his friend, Satish (19) on a motorbike, when their vehicle broke down on CTH. As the duo was checking on the bike, doors of a luxury sedan, which passed by, flung open and a gang pulled in Ebenezer inside the vehicle.
Satish sought the help of the passerby and alerted the police personnel. The unfolding of events was caught in a CCTV camera in the neighbourhood, police sources said. However, the gang let off the teenager near Thiruninravur around 9 pm. Ebenezer and his friend approached the TP Chatram police with a complaint claiming that the kidnap was due to a previous enmity.
Police investigations revealed that the kidnapped teenager, Akash Ebenezer, has a murder case pending against him and suspect previous enmity behind the kidnap attempt. “We are not very convinced with his versions of events either. We have secured the CCTV footage and are perusing it to identify the occupants of the car,” a police officer said.
