Toddler in Ernakulam hospital with serious wounds
The child's mother Saira Banu was married to one Anoop.
Kochi: A one-and-a-half-year-old girl has been admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital with serious wounds even as the police booked her mother and her male friend for alleged torture.
The Palluruthy police registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act based on a complaint filed by the toddler’s father against his estranged wife.
“The child has bruises all over her body which the doctors say might have caused by pinching harshly,” the police said. “The marks are at least a couple of weeks old. The girl was also given treatment for an injured shoulder bone.”
The child’s mother Saira Banu was married to one Anoop. However, she eloped with one Junaid whom she had met on Facebook and the duo settled in Kozhikode in April last. Two days ago, the girl was handed over to the family of Saira Banu who later handed her over to Anoop who noticed the scars and lodged a complaint with the police. The Childline also intervened in the matter.
However, in her statement given to police, the toddler’s mother claimed that the wound marks were caused after the girl accidentally suffered burns from her shawl, which caught fire while trying to dispose waste at her home at Kozhikode.
