Hyderabad: Policeman's son gets guard thrashed
Constables beat watchman after senior cop's son complains.
Hyderabad: A formal complaint has been registered against the son of a special branch inspector from Vikarabad and four police constables for allegedly beating up an apartment building’s watchman in the city.
The incident happened around 4pm on Thursday when around seven people arrived at the BDR towers apartment complex at Karanbagh. It’s believed the seven – including two Blue Colt constables – were sent by the special branch inspector whose son, Prithviraj, 27, lives in the apartment building. CCTV footage then shows the group, which arrived in a Tata Sumo, beating Amruth, 55, while his wife, Yadamma, pleads for her husband’s release. According to officials, Amruth and Prithviraj had an argument a few days ago after the younger man scolded another watchman’s children for making noise. Prithviraj is preparing for his Civil services exam and lives in the building with friends. Amruth stepped in and tried to placate Prithviraj who instead turned on the watchman and told him to vacate the premises. Amruth has been the watchman for the address for 10 years.
On Thursday night, Amruth and Prithviraj had a fresh row and the latter ended up calling the cops. Personnel from the Malakpet police station arrived but didn’t do anything as the locality was beyond their jurisdiction.
“He then called his father and told the cops to be stern on Amruth. We intervened saying the problem could be sorted out next morning,” the apartment’s residents’ association president D. Krishna Reddy said.
But on Thursday, five men in plainclothes — along with two Blue Colts constables — turned up nd started beating Amruth. “They dragged him out of the gate and put him inside the vehicle. I was pleading with them to let my husband go,” Amruth’s wife, Yadamma said. Officials said an injured Amruth was dropped off near Saidabad police station. The couple has now lodged a formal complaint against Prithviraj and four others. The accused has also filed his own complaint.
