Hyderabad: Burglars made an attempt to break open an Axis Bank ATM in Kukatpally. Before attempting to break the machine the thieves disconnected CCTV cables.

Police said the unmanned ATM booth belonging to Axis Bank is located in Jayanagar in Kukatpally police station limits.

On Saturday, at around 2 pm the staff of Advance Group Third Party Security and Management Services, the third party cash managing agency, deposited Rs 20 lakh in the machine.

On Sunday morning when they came to deposit cash they found that the machine was damaged in a possible attempt to steal cash. Police said the thieves used a metal object to open the ATM machine, but failed to do so.

“They could open the door of the currency chest and tried to break the OTP keyboard of the machine but could not gain access to it,” Kukatpally sub-inspector Anil said.

He said the suspects first disconnected power supply to the CCTV cameras at the ATM booth to prevent their identification. Based on a complaint from the agency supervisor B. Srinivas, a case was registered.

The police is checking footages in all the CCTV cameras installed in surrounding areas in an attempt to track down the culprits.
