Police control room received a call that there was a bomb on the college premises.
Bengaluru: Panic gripped among students and staff of Vijaya College on RV Road in Jayanagar 4th block, Basavanagudi in Siddapura police station limits on Wednesday morning after the police control room received a call that there was a bomb on the college premises.
The jurisdictional police rushed to the college with bomb disposal squad and dog squad, but after combing the entire campus for more than an hour they could not find anything suspicious and concluded that the call was a hoax.
The police control room received the call around 9 am and they immediately alerted the jurisdictional Siddapura police who rushed to the college. “We did not want to spread panic among students and college staff as we suspected it could be a mischief played by a prankster, and hence we did not evacuate anyone from the college premises. We made sure that the entire campus was combed for any suspicious material and after little over an hour and concluded the call was hoax,” said a senior police officer.
Call from coin booth
A case was registered at the Siddapura police station and the preliminary investigations revealed the phone call was made from a coin booth from a shop in Jayanagar 7th block.
Unfortunately, there were no CCTv cameras anywhere near the booth to identify the caller and efforts are underway to nab him with other clues. Vijaya College runs a host of institutions including a law college, degree college, PU college and an evening college in Jayanagar 4th block and on R.V. Road in Basavanagudi.
