Visakhapatnam: Man gets life imprisonment for dowry murder

Visakhapatnam: A local court on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 2,000 for murdering his wife over dowry.

The accused, Appikonda Nagadharmalingam Mahesham, 42, of Darabhogapuram village in Rambilli mandal, was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the 4th ADJ Court.

The case was registered on January 1, 2009, at Rambilli police station.

According to the case details, the deceased, Appikonda Nagamani, was Mahesham's wife. They got married in 2006 and lived happily for two years. In 2008, on the occasion of Nagamani's brother's wedding, Mahesham demanded dowry from his wife's family. The couple had a troubled family life after that, and Mahesham used to abuse his wife mentally and physically. One day, in a fit of rage, he murdered her.
