Couple robbed at knifepoint in Mukkom
Duo claiming to be Maoists decamped with gold on Thursday night.
KOZHIKODE: An elderly couple was threatened with a pistol and knife, by a duo who claimed to be ‘Maoists’ in Mukkom on Thursday night. The duo instead robbed the couple and even stole the only mobile phone they had, and as a result, the couple was able to complain about the theft only on Friday morning. Thamarassery police is investigating the case. According to police, Aagasthy Payyanikkuzhiyil and wife Gracy, were staying alone in their house in Kodencherry. Their daughters are married and living abroad.
Around 8.30pm, two persons, wearing masks knocked on the couple’s door and introduced themselves as Maoists. They first asked for rice and the couple agreed to give it. However, when they brought the rice, the duo refused it and asked for gold ornaments. Nearly four and a half sovereign of gold ornaments from Aagasthy and four bangles from Gracy, each weighing one sovereign, was snatched before the duo tied them up in the storeroom.
Since the mobile phone was also stolen, they could not contact the outside world. However, since the thieves had not worn gloves, fingerprint experts and dog squad arrived at the spot and collected evidence. Thamarassery DySP Ashraf K. who visited the spot, said that the police was also checking the presence of Maoists in the area. They would also check whether the same modus operandi was used in the past.
