Thiruvananthapuram police to take on New Year drug abuse

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the run up to New Year, the city police has stepped up surveillance for psychotropic drugs at DJ parties. Special branch officials say they are contemplating to send plain clothes police officers to scan DEM parties rather than banking on inside informers. “There have been reports of psychotropic drugs used at parties around Varkala, but the capital city is under tight intelligence. As a routine, the anti-drug raids are intensified in Kovalam-Poovar circuit. We will even attempt to book more peddlers as plain clothes officers discreetly visit parties,” said a senior official.
The city police said that they have been cautious about drugs inflow during December after some rave incidents were detected at Kochi. Earlier, Ketamine was found from a DJ at Kochi and a yacht party was busted. “We had siezed brown sugar at Vellar the previous year and hope to bust such activities if there are any. We had thoroughly checked several party spots during last New Year and had’t found drugs. However, no stones will left unturned,” officer said. However, official attached to the police anti-narcotics wing said, that LSD stamps are becoming popular in few engineering colleges here. “Some alumni of colleges who are generally jobless provide such drugs to college goers for money,” he added.
