Kalaburagi: Vikramdas Mulimani, an accused in an attempt to murder case, was shot at and injured by a police team after he attacked officials with lethal weapons and threw stones at them on the outskirts of Kalaburagi city on Monday morning.
Ambadas, a head constable attached to the district crime branch, sustained serious injuries on his left arm when he was attacked by the rowdy, who was trying to escape near Keri Bhosga, on the outskirts of the city.
The rowdy, Vikramdas, has sustained a bullet injury in the left leg and is being treated at a hospital here.
Kalaburagi police on Friday arrested four people who allegedly made an attempt on the life of gym owner Shrikanth Reddy on March 23. On the information provided by them, police picked up Vikramdas, who was hiding in Bengaluru.
Learning that he had hidden weapons in different parts of the city, police took him to these spots on Monday. At one of these, Vikramdas allegedly attacked a police constable with a lethal weapon he had hidden in some barren land and started throwing stones at them to escape. Police opened fire at Vikramdas and caught him. IGP (Northeastern range) Alok Kumar visited Basaveshwar Hospital, where the injured head constable is undergoing treatment.
He said that eight people have been arrested in connection with the murder bid on Shrikant Reddy and all the accused will be booked under the stringent Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) to curb organised crime in the region.
