Report abuse, prevent dowry deaths: Hyderabad SHE team
SHE Teams say timely action against offenders a must.
Hyderabad: Even after India advanced as a Nation in every sphere, after 70 long years of independence, it has not been able to wipe away the culture of harassing women post marriage for additional dowry which is so deep rooted in our society since time immemorial . D. Kavitha, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad SHE team said, "We request the women across the state that in cases of dowry harassment they should report immediately to us so that timely action can be taken against the offenders. We all know that demanding dowry is a crime and we should ensure that wherever it is happening we should educate the people on the issue."
Meanwhile, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in its latest statistics, said that crime against women in India is reported every two minutes. Hyderabad stands second in reporting crime against women under 'Cruelty by husbands and in-laws.' Out of the total percentage of crime in India, 29.2 per cent only covers cruelty by husband against their wives. The city of Hyderabad registered 1,311 cases after Delhi with 3,645 cases and Jaipur on the third rank with 1,008 cases.
From January 2018, there were numerous instances where married women were found murdered under suspicious conditions at their in-laws place. In these cases, the kin of the deceased alleged that the in-laws of their daughter have murdered them, and the police have not been helpful enough to help them gather evidence to get justice.
