Hyderabad: The accident in Jubilee Hills in Sunday, in which a B.Tech student was killed and her male friend escaped with minor injuries, has become controversial with the victim’s father questioning the episode.

Mr Niranjan Reddy on Tuesday alleged that his daughter K. Devi must have been confined or assaulted by her friend Bharath Simha Reddy in the early hours of Sunday before the mishap. He said that when he had called his daughter at 3.20 am, she had asked him to wait for her at the gate saying that she would reach in two minutes. But though he kept calling till 4.30 am, she did not answer her phone. Mr Reddy said that her phone might have been snatched away.

Meanwhile, Bharath Reddy has denied all allegations and said that it was only an accident. But witnesses from Huda Enclave say that they saw the girl screaming for help and Bharath pulling her inside the car before the accident.

Devi’s parents are now seeking a fresh probe into the incident. They also allege that they have now come to know that Bharath was high on drugs on Saturday night. They wanted to know why he drove to the deserted dead-end where the mishap occurred as it was not the way to Devi’s house. Bharath said that he drove to the deserted stretch because he wanted to smoke a cigarette.

Mr Niranjan Reddy, meanwhile, said that he suspected that something must have happened between 3.20 am, the time of Devi’s final call, and 4 am, the time of the mishap. “I dropped her at her friend’s place at Madhapur on Saturday evening as she wanted to go to a new pub.

Since then, my wife and I had been in touch with her over phone till 2 am.  At 3 am, I woke up and called her again. She told me that someone was dropping her and she would be home soon. I called her at 3.20 am and she asked me to come to the gate and that she would reach in two minutes. But she did not come, and I kept calling her.

But there was no answer despite me calling her 40 to 50 times. As per the police, the accident occurred at 4 am. We suspect he must have harmed her in that time,” said Mr Niranjan Reddy.

Devi’s friends said that Bharath had met Devi a few months ago and they became friends. He had promised to drop her home on Saturday night. “Investigation is going on. So far we have not found anything suspicious,” said Jubilee Hills SI Guruswami.

The car driven by Bharath Reddy, a degree final-year student and a resident of Ayyappa Society, was found crashed into a tree on Sunday morning near Journalist Colony. Devi was dead and Bharath had sustained injuries.

Residents of Huda Enclave, meanwhile, said that they had seen the same car parked in front of their gate minutes before the accident and that the girl was screaming for help.
