House burglary cracked in five hours in Salem

SALEM: The Salem city police successfully cracked a shocking house burglary at a trader's house and recovered 780 sovereigns of gold jewellery after arresting a close relative of the victims in connection with the incident.

According to police, Vijayalakshmi 40, resident of Kichipalayam was taking over his husband's business of iron and wood trading following his death her husband recently. She engaged her brother Baskaran for assisting in the business and he was staying at her home along with father Thakshnimoorthy, 63, and Sivabakyam, 58.

On Monday the two had been to Tirupati temple and were shocked on return to find gold jewels worth 780 sovereigns and cash Rs 2 lakh missing from  bureau.

A special police team, formed by the Salem commissioner, Sanjaykumar, quizzed Baskaran's brother-in-law, Gowtham, 23. He confessed to the crime and the police also recovered the stolen items.
