GUNTUR: A minor girl was raped on Wednesday night in Dachepalli, Guntur district, and the locals called for a bandh on Thursday and are now demanding that the accused be hanged in public.  A nine-year-old girl was playing on the road in Chepalagadda Bazaar at Dachepalli on Wednesday night. At around 8 pm, 60-year-old Annam Subbaiah residing in the same locality offered chocolates to the girl and took her to a secluded place in the colony.

According to reports, the accused Subbaiah raped the girl and fled from the spot.
The profusely bleeding minor was sobbing in pain and this alerted a few locals.  They informed her family members and rushed her to a private hospital at Dachepalli but as the victim’s condition deteriorated, she was later shifted to Gurazala and then to GGH Guntur for treatment.

Angry locals squatted on the Addanki-Narketpalli highway from 11 pm to midnight demanding the arrest of the accused. But as the police did not arrest the accused, the locals called for a bandh on Thursday.  Meanwhile, the police stated that teams had been formed to trace the whereabouts of the accused. The locals of Chepalagadda Bazaar alleged that the police did not react swiftly enough and this helped the accused Subbaiah to escape from the house.

When the police failed to arrest the accused despite assurance, the locals called for a bandh on Thursday. The locals demanded that the accused be hanged in public to teach a lesson to those who try to rape innocent minor girls. Guntur rural SP Ch. V. Appala Naidu rushed to Dachepalli and consoled the family members and relatives of the minor girl. He said that police had formed teams to nab the accused and assured them about Subbaiah’s arrest and stern punishment. The SP stated that case number 91-2018 was registered under section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and under IPC 376(2).
