As the victim started avoiding the accused, he thought her friend was spreading rumours about him and harboured a grudge against her.
Hyderabad: Rachakonda police on Thursday arrested a 23- year-old jilted lover at Hayathnagar for attacking a 19-year-old teenager with toilet cleaning liquid. Cheruku Shankar Goud, working as a cab driver, had thrown the liquid at the girl outside her residence, while she, along with her friend and mother, was going to a shop the, police said. The girl received burns on her body while the other two escaped unhurt.
According to police, the girl and Shankar came to know each other while working at a house in Dilsukhnagar two years ago. The girl was a domestic help while Shankar was employed as a driver. A few months later they became close and entered into a relationship. Recently, after coming into contact with another girl, the victim quit her job and started working at a different place.
She also started avoiding Shankar. The latter, who got to know about this, suspected that the victim’s friend was spreading rumours about him because of which she was avoiding him. From then on he harboured a grudge against the victim and was waiting to take his revenge on her. On Wednesday he purchased a toilet cleaning liquid thinking it was an acid and went to the victim’s home at around 9.30 pm. When he reached the house located at Padmavati colony under Hayathnagar police station limits, he found the victim, her mother and friend heading to a nearby shop on foot.
Hayathnagar inspector K. Satish said that Shankar targeted the girl, but the liquid spilled on her mother and friend also. “She was rushed to a nearby hospital where the liquid was washed and she was given first- aid. According to the doctors, she is out of danger,” he added. Based on the girl’s complaint, a case under section 326B of IPC was registered and Shankar was arrested and sent to judicial remand on Thursday.
