Bengaluru: A 30-year-old man, who claimed to be a son of former Social Welfare Minister in Jammu and Kashmir, has been arrested by the police for allegedly sexually harassing female job aspirants.

The accused, Habib Gani, a resident of Puttenahalli in J.P. Nagar and an employee of a BPO firm in Whitefield for the past few years, misused office records to access phone numbers of women who had attended job interviews in his office.

The incident came to light when a 25-year-old woman, hailing from Udupi, filed a complaint with the police accusing Habib of sexually harassing her. She told police that Habib on May 15 sexually harassed her on the pretext of helping her get a job in the company.

The accused called her up and told her that she had failed the interview and asked her to meet him personally. After the arrest the accused told his interrogators that he is the son of a former minister. However, the police are yet to verify his claims.

It is said that the accused was involved in similar cases in the past and they were being investigated. The police produced Habib before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
