Bodies of 2 youth fished out at Kuntala waterfalls
Visitors to the waterfall did not show any interest in trying to rescue the drowning youth.
ADILABAD: Security lapses at the Kuntala waterfalls cost dear to over-enthusiastic visitors again. Bodies of the two youth who drowned in the waters while taking photographs were fished out on Monday. The officials concerned have failed to recruit professional swimmers to man the waterfalls and avoid any untoward incidents. Once again the highest waterfall here became a death trap for the young ones visiting the place and taking a selfie with the natural water flow.
Inhuman behaviour, too, became evident at the Kuntala waterfall at the time of the incident when some of the visitors were busy recording and capturing photographs while two youth were struggling to come out of the water instead of trying to save them. One visitor tried to rescue them with the help of the ‘chunny’ but in vain. Most of the visitors at the scene were making funny comments on the hapless youth which was clear from the video recordings shared on social networking sites. There were no security guards when the incident took place. With this latest incident, visitors should know that nobody will save them if they face any danger at the Kuntala waterfalls. They need to take all precautionary measures while planning to visit the place in Neredigonda in Adilabad district.
Often, over-enthusiastic youth move close to the water to take photographs standing on the edges of slippery rocks despite warnings by the security guards. Some visitors express-ed their anger that no security measures are in place at the Kuntala waterfall. Some even demanded that the visitors who fail to follow security measures at the waterfall be banned. A visitor Rajender Goud of Nizamabad said the district administration should take some firm action. The forest department which looks after the maintenance of the Kuntala waterfall, has failed to ensure security measures. The department can post professional swimmers and make ropes, fencing, life jackets, and bamboos available.
