Hyderabad: A man designated to collect money and maintain hygiene at a pay-and-use toilet was found to be recording videos and taking pictures of women using the toilet at Pragathinagar in Kukatpally. The attendant has been arrested and his services terminated by the concerned agency, but the incident has left women feeling vulnerable.

On June 28, a woman who visited the pay and use toilet at Pragathinagar noticed that the man sitting in front of the toilet complex to collect money from users of the washrooms, was pointing his mobile phone towards the door. Suspicious of such behaviour, she alerted the Cyberabad SHE team police. The police took the man into custody to verify the suspicion raised by the complainant and found it to be true.

Cyberabad SHE teams in-charge DCP Anasuya said the man was working for an agency that was given the contract by the GHMC to maintain the public toilets.

“On verifying the phone of the accused, several pictures and videos of women walking and exiting the toilet complex were found, which were immediately deleted and his phone has been seized.”

Responding to a query, the DCP said: “The accused did not install a camera in the washrooms. His phone contained several pictures and videos of the women. We have not yet found that he shared them with anyone.”

The accused has been arrested on the charge of voyeurism and remanded to judicial custody, said the DCP.
