Lorry runs over 3-year-old girl in Chengalpet

According to police, Ramaraj and his family reside at a house inside the brick kiln.

The police had earlier arrested Nooruddin Sheik, a Wayanad native, who was released after detailed interrogation.

Chennai: In a tragic incident, a 3-year-old girl, playing near his house, died in a freak accident on Friday morning near here in Chengalpet.

The deceased was identified as Priya Dharshini, (3) daughter of Ramaraj of Villupuram working in a brick kiln owned by Sridhar in Reddypalayam near Chengalpattu.

According to police, Ramaraj and his family reside at a house inside the brick kiln. 

"On Friday morning at around 9 am, Priya Dharshini was playing in front of her hut when a brick-laden lorry, which was reversing mowed her down," the police said.

Immediately she was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The girl's body was sent to Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Chengalpattu police arrested the lorry driver Anantha Kumar(23) of Villupuram and sent him to judicial remand.
