NIZAMABAD: The Nizamabad police registered a case under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, (Nirbhaya Act) 2013 against TRS Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas’s son, D. Sanjay, former mayor, here on Friday. Following the complaint lodged by 11 B.Sc (Nursing) students over alleged sexual harassment by Sanjay, who owns Shankary Nursing College in Nizamabad, IV Town police has registered the case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) with crime number 187/2018.
The victims met Commissioner of Police, Mr Kartikeya, and lodged a complaint in IV Town police station. Mr Sanjay said he would cooperate with the investigating agencies on the harassment charges framed against him. After meeting the home minister Naini Narasimha Reddy in Hyderabad on Thursday, the victims reached here on Friday and lodged the complaint. In the complaint, the students said that they were horrified with the attitude of Sanjay.
Meanwhile, speaking to newsmen here at his residence former mayor, D. Sanjay refuted the allegations of sexual harassment. He said that with political vendetta, baseless charges were being framed against him. “Shankary educational institutions including nursing colleges have been leased out to others, I am in no way concerned with the administration,” he said.
He also said that he was living with his wife and children and not in a live-in relationship with someone else. He assured that educational certificates of the complaining students will be handed over by the existing management of Shankary College. On the other hand, DS's younger son, BJP State Executive Committee member Mr. D. Arvind said that sexual harassment charges episode was an internal affair of the ruling TRS party. “I have parted ways from my parents and brother 20 years ago,” he said. There would be no impact on his political prospectus, he added. Meanwhile, IV Town police have recorded the statements of 11 B.Sc (Nursing) students over sexual harassment in Shankary College. The police are investigating the case.
