Suraram murder case solved with arrest of four persons
Hyderabad: The Suraram police solved the case of murder of a woman with the arrest of four persons including a minor on Thursday. The accused, later identified as K. Renuka alias Dharni, had been released on bail after being arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of her husband.
Police said that after her release she had married on Siddula Saibaba and was residing at his house in Doctor Basthi, Gandimaisamma.
She had gone to the Jeedimetla police station to sign the register as per her bail condition when her first husband’s brother K. Naresh called her for a meeting at the house of his associate, autorickshaw driver Bandaru Sai, in Dayanandnagar.
Once there, they got her drunk, tied her up and asphyxiated her to death using a pillow. Naresh’s sister Manne Padma told him to dispose of Renuka's body and the evidence. Naresh abandoned Renuka's body in an autorickshaw near Bandamkunta cheruvu. The body was found by passersby who informed the police.
The police arrested Naresh, Bandaru Sai and Padma and produced them before a court. The minor was separately produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, police said.
Gang posing as male escorts rob 2 persons
Hyderabad: A techie from Banjara Hills and a youngster from Khairatabad fell prey to a gang that was robbing people under the guise of providing male escorts. The gang operated through an app. When men approached them, the gang robbed the men, shot their nude videos and blackmailed them.
In the first instance the 23-yaer-old victim went to meet an escort provided by the gang in a hotel. Once there, the escort threatened him with a knife, forced him to strip, took his videos and robbed cash and valuables. He started blackmailing him for money.
The second incident involving a 27-year-old man was similar but in his case the escorts forced him to transfer cash through UPI.
Dowry death: Man held
Hyderabad: Allegedly harassed for additional dowry ever since her marriage less than nine months ago, 29-year-old Sandhya Rani died by suicide at her residence at Uppal after calling her mother one last time.
According to the complaint of Vekuri Vijay Lakshmi, mother of the victim, Sandhya Rani had married Anumala Praveen Kumar, 30-year-old software engineer, on May 25, 2022. The family gave Kumar Rs 3.1 lakh cash, gold ornaments, and household articles. After two months of marriage, Kumar began demanding more down and started harassing Sandhya Rani.
Lakshmi said her family was unable to give more dowry. On August 2, Sandhya Rani was found dead at her home after calling her mother. The complainant accused Kumar's mother-in-law and sister-in-law of provoking him to harass Sandhya Rani. The Uppal police booked Kumar in a dowry case and detained him.
Gambling house raided, 8 held
Hyderabad: South Zone task force raided a house in Falaknuma early on Thursday and arrested eight persons for gambling. Police seized Rs 17,840 cash, and two sets of playing cards from them, and booked them under the TS Gaming Act. They handed over to the Falaknuma police.
Vehicle lifter gang busted, 3 arrested
Hyderabad: The central zone task force along with Tukaramgate police arrested two vehicle offenders and a minor for the alleged theft of nine vehicle. The accused, Mohammed Sohail, 20, Mohammed Faiz alias Foux, and the minor, residents of Musheerabad, were wanted by Tukaramgate police for several months. Police said the trio used to break bike handle locks, use a master key to start the vehicles and escape. Police seized the nine stolen bikes and handed them over to the Tukaramgate police.
Slots open on 4 Saturdays for passports
Hyderabad: To bring down the long waiting list, the Regional Passport Office said it would conduct special drives for four Saturdays from August 12 in all the five passport seva kendras (PSKs) and 14 post office PSKs in Hyderabad. The appointment slots will be available in the passport seva portal from 4.30 pm on Friday, said Dasari Balaiah, regional passport officer. He said passport applicants could use these special drives to get an early appointment.
