Chennai: Two employees of a private firm were allegedly attacked by a gang in an auto rickshaw and relieved of the Rs 3 lakh cash they were carrying on Saturday night at Koyambedu. Police identified the victims as R. Ramar, 21, of Thondaiman village in Tiruvannamalai and M. Thomas, 32 from Lalgudi in Trichy working in a shopping complex in T. Nagar.
According to the complaint, the two had come to the market to make payment to the fruit vendors at Koyambedu for supplies they had made. The two, working in the accounts section, are entrusted with the job of making the payments to different vendors, including those who supply fruits and vegetables to the shop. They told the police that they were walking on the road near Koyambedu Flower Market on Saturday night, when a gang in an auto rickshaw came there and attacked them before snatching the cash bag and sped away, the duo said in the complaint lodged at the Koyambedu police station.
Based on the complaint, police started the probe and found an abandoned auto rickshaw in the neighbourhood. “We are checking to find if that was the vehicle used by the robbers,” police noted. They added that the incident seems to have taken place in a busy area. If they had cried for help, the vendors would have done something to overpower the criminals. Though the two claimed they were attacked, there were no injury marks on them, police added.
