Tribal activists accuse YSRC leaders of smuggling ganja
One of these activists alleged that a ruling party leader of the area has joined hands with smugglers from Tamil Nadu and Kerala
VISAKHAPATNAM: Activists of various Adivasi unions have accused YSRC leaders of being behind smuggling of ganja from Visakhapatnam agency and making enormous profits.
One of these activists alleged that a ruling party leader of the area has joined hands with smugglers from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. He has built a network and supply chain spread as far as New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The activist from Chintapalli told this correspondent on Sunday that law-enforcing authorities are turning blind eye, as ruling party leaders are allegedly involved. He disclosed that Meddi Ramanna, MPTC from Darakonda, and a few others from UP, had been caught in Gurtedu of East Godavari district and 1.5 tonnes of ganja seized from them. Ramanna has been named AI in the case filed with Donkarai police station.
“Ramanna managed to file his nomination for the MPTC post and disappeared. He has surfaced after winning the election. But police are not touching him despite Ramanna being accused number one in the case,” the activist pointed out.
Incidentally, GK Veedhi mandal agricultural committee chairman Chittibabu had been arrested by police on August 10 this year at Maredimalle. A case had been booked against him under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Chittibabu is currently lodged in Rajahmundry jail.
YSRC Darakonda mandal youth committee president Pindi Ramakrishna had been arrested by KD Peta police following seizure of ganja from him and his friends. He subsequently managed to hoodwink police and has disappeared for good.
These are the three ruling party people who have been caught. But there could be many more of them in ganja business, the activist underlined.
When asked, top YSRC leaders maintained they are not aware of any party member being involved in ganja smuggling.
