Bengaluru: Five held for robbing motorists
The gang used to target people from 10 pm to 2 am and used to move around in stolen bikes.
Bengaluru: The Hanumanthnagar police have arrested five robbers who used to target and frighten lone motorists and pedestrians, mostly techies, during night and rob their cash and valuables.
With this arrest, around 12 cases of robberies in J.P. Nagar, Basavangudi, Adugodi, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Hanumanthanagar police stations have been solved and cash and valuables worth over Rs 8 lakh were recovered.
The arrested have been identified as Kantharaju alias Kantha (19), a resident of Hoskerehalli, Vinay alias Brucelee (19), a resident of Ettemadu, Sanjay alias Kencha (20), a resident of Hoskerehalli, Harish Kumar alias Harish (19) a resident of Ettemadu and Shekhar alias Thippe (20), a resident of Kathriguppe.
According to the police, the gang used to target people from 10 pm to 2 am and used to move around in stolen bikes. They used to accost and threaten their victims with lethal weapons such as machetes and longs and steal their valuables.
In three cases at J.P. Nagar police station limits the victims were also assaulted, the police said. The police have recovered six stolen bikes, 62 mobile phones, 80 gm gold and other valuables.
Eight-member gang of bike thieves arrested
The Yeshwanthpur police have arrested a gang of eight bike thieves, who had robbed two private firm employees near CMT Junction on October 16 and made away with Rs 16 lakh in cash.
Police said the gang members had waylaid Manjunath on October 25 noon, while he along with his friend was heading home on his two wheeler. The gang members on three bikes allegedly waylaid them and snatched away the bag containing cash, which was being collected by the employees, before fleeing the spot.
Based on the complaint the police zeroed in on the gang and arrested them.
According to the police, with the arrest of Sandeep, Prashanth, Shiv along with five others, they have successfully cracked the case and recovered cash '14 lakh in cash from the accused. Yeshwanthpur police have registered a case.
