THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tension prevailed at the Thiruvananthapuram rural Superintendent of Police office near PMG junction here on Thursday after a march taken out by Congress activists, demanding action against a sub-inspector for allegedly beating a dalit youth, turned violent. A group of Congress activists led by a local leader M A Latheef took out a march to the Rural SP's office around 11.30 demanding action against the sub-inspector. A police party blocked the march at the office entrance.
However, some activists tried to barge into the SP’s office, leading to a minor scuffle with the police. A group of activists staged a dharna in front of the office insisting that they would not withdraw the stir unless action was taken against the sub-inspector. As the situation worsened, Congress MLA V S Sivakumar, City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar and Rural SP Shefeen Ahammed reached the spot and held talks. Later the stir was withdrawn following the assurance of the city police commissioner that he would look into the Kadinamkulam issue and take necessary action.
