Bengaluru: Four people were arrested for allegedly stealing diesel from tankers and around 60,000 litres of diesel and goods worth over Rs 40 lakh was seized from them.

The accused have been arrested as Venkatanathaiah, 30, of Devanagondhi near Hoskote, Gururaj, 37, Mallesh, 35, both residents of Hassan, and Govindaraju, 41, of Banashankari. Another accused, Manjunath of Hoskote, has been absconding and efforts are on to nab him.

According to the police, they got credible information that some people were stealing diesel from petroleum tankers at the parking area behind Gayatri Timber Yard at Medahalli in K. R. Puram police station limits.

“It was found that Venkatanathaiah, who was owner cum driver of a tanker, and other drivers Gururaj and Govindaraju were working for IOCL. They were supposed to supply diesel to various petrol pumps. They roughly calculated how much fuel would evaporate during the transit and stole diesel using a duplicate master key to open the tanker lid.”

The police found they had stored 60,000 litres of diesel, worth around Rs 35 lakh, without any precautionary measures. Three tankers were also seized from them, police said. K.R. Puram police have registered a case.
