Chennai: Couples held for robbing man

Based on the recovered CCTV footages from the area, police identified and nabbed the two couples within a few minutes.

The police said that Dinesh was involved in over 10 robberies in the city. He was previously booked and arrested for committing thefts in Banaswadi, J.P. Nagar, Indiranagar, Hennur, Kumarswamy Layout and Basaveshwaranagar.

Chennai: Two couples have been arrested for robbing a businessman in Pallavaram on Sunday night.

According to the police, Vishwananthan (40) was driving from Gummudipoondi to Porur at 2 am to meet a friend when two women on the Pallavaram main road stopped his car and asked for a lift. Vishwanathan did not oppose and agreed to drop them, meanwhile, two men who came to the spot opened his car back door and started threatening him at knifepoint.

They robbed him of gold chain, bracelet, phone and Rs, 10,000. However, after the incident, Vishwanathan immediately narrated the incident to a traffic cop on duty in Padi Bridge who relayed the message with the control room.

Based on the recovered CCTV footages from the area, police identified and nabbed the two couples within a few minutes.

The arrested were identified as Sukumar(26) and his wife Varalakshmi(23). the other couple Venkatesh(28) and his wife Revathy(24) all residents of Periampet. After an investigation, they were remanded under judicial custody.

Police said both the couples have the previous robbery and snatching cases registered against them. The women would wait on the road and when any commuters approach them, the men would rob them at knifepoint. They mostly targeted night drivers on Pallavaram and Red Hills areas.
