Coimbatore: Public thrash two chain snatchers, clip goes viral

Coimbatore: Two persons were caught red-handed on Sunday night as they snatched the chain of a woman near Vellalore. They were thrashed by public and the clip went viral on social media.
Police said, Ramadevi (71), resident of PN Pudhur, was on Sunday late evening walking in a street in the locality, when the two followed her on a bike and snatched her four sovereign gold chain, and fled.
On receiving a complaint from Rama Devi, Sai Baba Colony police launched a search for them. Meanwhile, in another similar incident that happened the same evening, residents of Mullai Nagar on the Pattinam - Vellalore road, in the suburbs of the city, caught a duo red-handed as they tried to snatch the chain of a woman on the road.
Public tied them to a tree and thrashed them badly. The victim also joined in thrashing the duo with a wooden stick, and the accused suffered bleeding injuries.
A local youth captured the incident on his mobile camera and uploaded it on social media, which soon went viral.
On receiving information, Podanur police rushed to the spot and took the duo under custody. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was from Chennai, identified as Vijaya Ragavan and Karthick. Investigations revealed that it was the same pair who earlier snatched the chain of Ramadevi at PN Pudhur, the same evening.
Police registered a complaint and are investigating.
