Take cyber crimes seriously and act fast, new CP tells cops

Hyderabad: NRIs resorting to online abuse will find their passports revoked, City Police Commissioner CV Anand warned here on Tuesday. He said police will be booking cases and issuing lookout notices against those harassing people by morphing their photos and posting them on social media.

The city police chief, in his first video conference after taking charge, said the police force should ensure justice to all. They should act strictly against social media harassment.

“Those harassing the public by morphing photos and posting them on social media platforms with derogatory comments should be dealt with strictly. In addition to registering cases against those spreading fake news on social media, there should be a speedy trial too,” said the official.

Speaking at the conference attended by officers of all departments including the SHOs, ACPs, deputy commissioners, joint commissioners and additional Commissioner of law and order DS Chauhan, the commissioner asked them to firmly deal with cybercrime.

The officials were asked to identify criminals who are repeatedly committing the same offence and take action against them and prevent them from involving in more crimes. “If there are any doubts in any case, the legal adviser should give suggestions and resolve the cases expeditiously. The trials should be expedited and the criminals punished,” he said.

Every police officer should take necessary actions on their own, the commissioner said they need not waste time by waiting for orders from their superior officers in emergenc situations. “Take the necessary technical assistance to gather evidence,” he said.
