Telangana: 12-year-old boy crushed by lorry

Hyderabad: A 12-year-old boy, who fell off the pillion seat of a two-wheeler, when the scooty his 14-year-old friend was driving dashed into a lorry, was crushed under the vehicle, on Sunday in Kishanbagh of Bahadurpura. 

The police will be booking cases against the parents for allowing their under-age son to drive.   

The deceased, identified as Mohd Riyaz was a madrasa student; the driver was 14-year-old Junaid. The scooty belonged to his relative. 

The two boys were heading towards Kishanbagh on Sunday at around 11:30 am and as they crossed Katta Maisamma temple, Junaid tried to overtake a lorry. 

“The lorry driver was already driving at a high speed and dashed their bike,” said sub-inspector of Bahadurpura police station, M. Shiva Krishna. The impact caused Riyaz to fall off and he was crushed under the lorry.

“The 12-year-old’s head was crushed under the tyre of the lorry, which was being driven by K. Somala,” police added.  

Police has booked a case under section 304 A (death by negligence) of IPC and arrested the driver.

Furthermore, cases under section 181 and 180 of  Motor Vehicle (MV) Act will be booked against the owner of the scooty used by the minors. 

“We will wait for a day or two as the family is busy with the rituals at present and are going through emotional trauma of losing the kid,” said the investigating officer of the case.

Vehicle owner likely to be held
Speaking about the MV Act section of the offence, joint commissioner of Hyderabad traffic police, V. Ravinder said that in such cases, we definitely booked cases against the vehicle owner. 

“The owner is liable to punishment in the offence as he will be held responsible for handing over the vehicle to minors,” he said.

When offences are committed by juveniles, the guardian/owner is held responsible, and the juvenile will be tried under the JJ Act, and the registration of the vehicle is cancelled. 

“The owner of the vehicle is given a challan of Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 or a jail time of three months. If driver allowing any person to obstruct his control of the vehicle, his licence will be held,” said a senior traffic policemen.

Eight accidents were caused due to rash driving by minors leaving one person dead, and at least eight, including a couple, injured from December 2016 till last year.
