Hyderabad: A five-month-old kid of a homeless couple was kidnapped on Saturday night. The parents are daily wage labourers.

The couple was allegedly in an inebriated condition and fell asleep on a footpath of the Motinagar flyover. The SR Nagar police registered a case on Sunday and an investigation is underway. The police identified the parents as Aruna, 25, the mother and Ramulu, 40, the father.

According to the SR Nagar police, the parents were habitual drinkers and were in a drunken stupor when the kidnap occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. P. Mahender, SR Nagar sub-inspector of police, said, “Aruna gave birth to a girl on October 4 at Gandhi Hospital. On the day of the abduction, Ramulu woke up at around 1.45 am and could not find his daughter. He woke up and informed his wife about the kidnap.”

“They started searching the surrounding areas. As they could not trace her, they approached the SR Nagar police. They were still under the influence of alcohol and couldn’t even give a clear picture of when the kidnap happened. We have registered a kidnap case under Section 363 IPC,” added P. Mahender, SR Nagar sub-inspector of police. The cops are checking CCTV footages to identify the suspects.

The investigation officer told that they would zero on the suspects by Tuesday and nab them as soon as possible.
