Bengaluru: Woman kills her children, hangs self
Husband changed jobs frequently, 26-year-old was frustrated.
Bengaluru: A 26-year-old woman killed her two children and attempted to strangle her third child before she hanged herself at a shanty where the family lived on T.C. Palya Main Road in R.V. Nagar on Monday afternoon.
The deceased were Ganga Devi, her six-year-old daughter Palpasa and three-year-old son Parbal, while the third child, six-month-old boy, survived, the police said.
Ganga Devi was reportedly upset with her husband, Prem, who works as a security guard, for not sticking to a permanent job and staying at makeshift shanties with their children, the police said.
Around 1.30 pm, a worker, Nagaraj, heard cries of the baby from inside the shanty. He tried to open the shed, but found it locked from inside. He informed Prem, who had gone out, over phone. Prem returned immediately and peeped through the window to see his wife hanging from the ceiling and the two children lying motionless. Prem and Nagaraj broke open the door and rushed the three to a nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
The couple, who hailed from Nepal, were married for the last 12 years. The family moved into the shanty in R.V. Nagar a couple of days ago and came to the city only three months ago from Tamil Nadu. Prem was working as a security guard at an under-construction building in Peenya before shifting with his family to Ramamurthy Nagar, the police said.
Ganga Devi, a second PU pass, was reportedly upset that Prem, a graduate, was changing jobs frequently and the family had to keep moving from one place to another.
Prem told the police that she was unhappy that the family was living in a shanty, though both of them were educated. “We have taken up a case of two murders and a suicide and are waiting for a version from the woman’s family from Nepal, who have been informed about the incident. The three bodies have been shifted to B.R. Ambedkar Hospital for the postmortem.
