Kannur: Relative held for raping 70-year-old

The woman was found hanging in the house of her sister at Muzhakkunnu on March 30.

KANNUR: A distant relative of the  70-year-old woman, who committed suicide after she was raped on March 30, was  arrested by the Peravoor police  on Monday night.   The culprit P.M. Rajeevan, 46, is CPM branch committee member and Karshaka Sangham village committee member, Peravoor. 

The woman was found hanging in the  house of her sister at  Muzhakkunnu on March 30.   The post-mortem had revealed that she was raped  hours before she was found dead.    The police said that Rajeevan was carrying out electrical and plumbing works for the house of the victim’s son.     The woman  was  earlier staying with her children and grandchildren at Pazhanchery, near Iritty.
