CBI gets custody of Arun Goyal for 3 days
L Raja, Gajendran's acquaintance, allegedly brokered the deal and Gajendran acted as Goyal's conduit.
CHENNAI: CBI personnel will grill for three days, senior auditor and accountant general, Arun Goyal and three others arrested on bribery charges,. The principal special court for CBI cases granted permission to the CBI on Wednesday to take them into their custody for three days to investigate the allegations.
Recently, the anti-corruption branch of the CBI, arrested Accountant General (Accounts and Entitlements), Arun Goyal for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh for allotting a favourable posting to a state government official in an office under his control. The CBI also arrested Gajendran, senior accounts officer, S. Sivalingam, assistant, Tiruvannamalai public works department, and LS Raja, a PWD staff at the Tiruvallur collectorate.
Based on a tip off, a CBI team conducted a preliminary probe and caught Gajendran - working under Goyal - while he was allegedly accepting 5 lakh from Sivalingam. L Raja, Gajendran’s acquaintance, allegedly brokered the deal and Gajendran acted as Goyal’s conduit.
The CBI sought to obtain more information relating to the allegation, hence sought their custody. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday principal special judge for CBI cases A. Thiruneelaprasad ordered three-day CBI custody to Goyal and others. The judge directed the CBI to produce them before the court on Friday.
