Delivery boy in Bengaluru ends life on rail track
Moses was a resident of Gajendra Nagar in Old Byappanahalli and working for Flipkart.
BENGALURU: After having gone missing for nearly a week, the body of a 21-year-old delivery boy of an e-commerce firm has been identified by the police on Wednesday. It is believed that the youth, identified as William Moses, committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train, after being allegedly harassed by a group of transgenders.
Moses was a resident of Gajendra Nagar in Old Byappanahalli and working for Flipkart. He had gone missing since April 28. Police suspect that he might have committed suicide the same night. The body was identified by the police after the family members of Moses approached them to lodge a missing complaint on Tuesday night, police said.
According to the police, the railway police had found the body lying on the railway tracks and it was shifted to Bowring Hospital, but no one came forward to claim it. The family members approached the police after a few days to lodge a missing complaint and identified the body.
On April 28 evening, William Moses had gone to a nearby park to play cricket along with his younger brother. Later, he told his brother to go home and said he would return later. However, he did not turn up. The family did not approach the police immediately as Moses used to work long shifts and sometimes even came home after being away for two-three days at a stretch.
However, when he did not turn up even after five days, the family got suspicious and approached the Byappanahlli police to lodge a missing complaint. When the police saw the picture of Moses, they contacted the Cantonment railway police and took the family members to the hospital on Wednesday, where the body was identified and handed over to the family, added the police.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that Moses knew some transgenders in the area and they often used to harass him. He was reportedly depressed over this and took the extreme step. However, the police said they have no confirmation about the claim.
“William’s brother had told us that some transgenders had come in search of him, but there is no conclusive evidence pointing towards this as a reason for his suicide. There was no suicide note left by him,” said a police official. Cantonment railway police have registered a case.
Bengaluru: Man falls to death from third floor
A 50-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of his house in Prakashnagar in Rajajinagar early Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Sarvana, was an autorickshaw driver. He was married to Dhanlakshmi and they have a son, who is studying at an engineering college.
While Dhanlakshmi has lodged a case of unnatural death with the police, a counter complaint has been registered against her for allegedly murdering him. Rajajinagar police have registered both the cases and have begun investigation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sarvana was a habitual drinker and used to come home drunk after duty. According to Dhanlakshmi, Sarvana came home drunk around 2.30 am, accidentally slipped while climbing stairs and crashed on the floor.
She along with her son rushed him to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to Suguna Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. An alert was made to the police, who visited the spot and based on the complaint of Dhanlakshmi, a case under section 174 of IPC was registered, police said.
However, when relatives came to know about Sarvana’s death, his brother approached Rajajinagar police on Wednesday and lodged a counter complaint against Dhanlakshmi, accusing her of killing his brother, police said. In his statement, he alleged that Dhanalakshmi had pushed Sarvana.
“Police have registered both the complaints and sent the body for post-mortem. It is too early to declare whether Sarvana died by accidentally falling off the stairs or was pushed to death,” said an investigating officer.
